NIPA Competition – Rules
BEGINNERS MONOCHROME PRINT, COLOUR PRINT AND COLOUR TRANSPARENCY COMPETITIONS
1. There are three competitions, one each for Monochrome Prints, Colour Prints and Colour Transparencies.
2. The Beginners Competitions are to encourage genuine beginners or novices to submit work at a competitive level. Unless all those submitting entries observe the spirit of the competition, it fails to achieve that objective and will discourage genuine beginners.
The competition is open to those photographers who comply with the NIPA definition of a beginner.
A beginner is a photographer who has NOT in any preceding year :
(a) Had a photograph awarded a star in the relevant section of the NIPA Inter-Club competitions. (b) Been placed first in any section of the Annual NIPA Beginners Competitions. (c) Been awarded recognised photographic honours, or a recognised academic qualification in photography. (d) Achieved success in any open exhibition or competition organised by a recognised photographic society, association, organisation or PAGB exhibition.
Success (d) is defined as acceptance in a selected exhibition, or award in a non-selected exhibition or competition.
(e) Produced work which is obviously of an advanced standard. The NIPA Inter-Club Competition Organisers reserve the right to review the status of any entrant.
3. Each entrant may submit up to 4 prints or colour transparencies in the relevant section of the competitions. 4. Prints may not exceed 16" x 12" and for monochrome prints (mounting excepted) must be the unaided work of the entrant. Trade processed colour prints are acceptable. 5. Prints must be mounted. The mounts may be of any colour, but must not exceed 16" x 12" in size. The back of the mount must show : (a) Author's Name
(b) Name of Club
(c) Title of print6. Transparencies must be in 5cm square mounts. 7. Transparency mounts must show :
(a) Author's Name
(b) Name of Club
(c) Title of Colour Transparency
(d) Spot, on bottom left-hand corner when directly viewed.8. The competitions will be judged by three judges nominated by NIPA Council. 9. The judges will decide the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and may commend any entry which they deem worthy. 10. Entries are due on the date stipulated in the NIPA competition timetable. 11. The prints and colour transparencies will be displayed at a Beginners evening, when the results, with judges comments, will be announced. 12. The author of the winning monochrome print will be awarded the NIPA Novice's Shield 13. The author of the winning colour print will be awarded the NIPA Beginners Colour Print Trophy. 14. The author of the winning Colour Transparency will be awarded the NIPA Novices Colour Transparency Trophy. 15. Trophies will be held from the date of their presentation until their return is requested by Council. 16. The prints (non-starred) and colour transparencies entered by members of any one Club will be available for collection as an integral unit at the Council meeting following the competitions. 17. Unless the author states otherwise in writing, it will be assumed that any print or colour transparency may be used for publicity purposes to promote NIPA 18.
