NIPA Events 2015 - 2016

Each year NIPA organises a series of events, quite often in conjunction with member societies, and always with the support of willing volunteers. Below we outline the main NIPA events, however, you may be interested to know details of all the competition events that we participate in. Click here to find out more.

NIPA 2013-2014 Interclub Competitions
Interclub Competitions

Between September and March NIPA organises a series of five interclub competitions. Four mono prints, four colour prints and four Projected Digital image entries are invited from all member societies. Two of the rounds have a theme or a topic and the remaining three rounds are open. This year we have "Street Photography" for Round 3 in January 2016 and "Contre-Jour" for Round 5.

A panel of three judges score the images and the top images are given a "Star".

All images are then displayed at our Display and Adjudication evenings. These are held in association with one of our member societies.

This annual competition has been running for over 25 years, and is held in the Autumn of each year in memory of Roy Finlay, one of Northern Ireland’s best known wildlife photographers.

The competition itself follows the FIAP rules for wildlife, allowing minor adjustments but not digital manipulation of photographs. Entries must be of wildlife in its natural habitat, ie the faithful representation of the subject at the taking of the shot must be maintained.

All camera clubs have members that are, either new to photography, or new to the complicated world of digital photography. Some camera clubs use the terms, 'beginners, or foundation" to separate them from the well established or, often called 'advanced members'. This is only right and proper, if the club membership is full enough to allow it.

NIPA offers this 'Novice Competition' to allow all folk, new to photography, to compete in a competition that is only open to them.

  • The competition is organised by NIPA for individual members of its member clubs.

  • There are three competitions one each for Monochrome Prints, Colour Prints and Projected Digital Images.

  • The Novice Competitions are to encourage genuine novices to submit work at a competitive level and is open to all those photographers who comply with the NIPA Novice definition.

  • Entries for the competition are selected by members of NIPA clubs from their own work.

The annual Top Print and PDI Competition is, for many, the biggest event in the NIPA Calendar.  It offers an opportunity to see all the starred prints from Rounds One to Five of our Inter Club Competitions, sponsored by Camera Jungle.

One way to improve your photography is to view the work of others.  Simply being able to view all the top prints and PDI's will let you see the excellent standard that has been set during the 2014-2015 season.

You don't have to have a starred image to attend, it is open to everyone and NIPA would like to encourage all camera club members to join us in Dungannon on 11th April from 1pm. to 5pm.

Des Clinton FRPS FIPF is the Judge for the event, and that he will be doing a shot presentation on his own work. This is, in itself, an incentive to attend, Des's work is highly regarded and not to be missed.

It is also worth noting that this is the Annual Awards presentation for the NIPA inter-club competition as well as the Novice Competition - all the Trophies for the season are presented at this event.

Location and driving instructions:

Drive to Dungannon. Follow the signs for the South Tyrone Hospital. At the roundabout, at the hospital take the A45 road to Coalisland. The venue is called the Des Fox Pavilion on the Rossmore Road, Edendork, and is on your left.  Use the postcode BT71 6LA in Google Maps or your Sat Nav.

In each round of each Inter-Club competition the top entries are awarded “stars”. After Round 5 has taken place the top mono prints, the top colour prints and the top PDIs from the 5 rounds compete in the Top Print and PDI Competition. This is judged by an external judge invited by NIPA.
